چکیده

the oxidation of low-density lipoproteins and cell membrane lipids is believed to play an integral role in the development of fatty streak lesions, an initial step in coronary artery disease (cad). paraoxonase-1 (pon1) is an enzyme associated with the high-density lipoprotein (hdl) particle. pon1 protects ldl from oxidative modification by hydrolyzing lipid peroxides, suggestive of a role for pon1 in the development of cad. the present study tested the hypothesis that paraoxonase-1 promoter polymorphism t(-107)c could be a risk factor for severity of cad in iranian population. paraoxonase-1 promoter genotypes were determined in 300 consecutive subjects (> 40 years old) who underwent coronary angiography (150 subjects with >50% stenosis served as cases [cad+] and 150 subjects with

association between paraoxonase -1 gene pro-moter t (-107) c polymorphism and coronary artery disease

background: paraoxonase-1(pon1), a high-density lipoprotein (hdl) associated enzyme, is believed to contribute in the pathogenesis of coronary artery disease (cad). the aim of this study was to evaluate the association of pon1 promoter c (-107)t polymorphism with the extent of coronary artery stenosis in iranian patients. methods : the rflp analysis for determination of the c(-107)t genotype d...

Lack of Association between the MEF2A Gene and Coronary Artery Disease in Iranian Families

Objective(s):  Coronary artery disease (CAD) which may lead to myocardial infarction (MI) is a complex one. Great effort has been devoted to identification of genes that increase susceptibility to CAD or provide protection. A 21-bp deletion in the MEF2A gene, which encodes a member of the myocyte enhancer factor 2 family of transcription factors, has been reported in patients of a single pedigr...

Association of paraoxonase-1 activity and concentration with angiographic severity and extent of coronary artery disease.

OBJECTIVES The goal of this study was to examine the association between paraoxonase-1 (PON1) activity and concentration and the severity and extent of coronary artery disease (CAD). BACKGROUND Paraoxonase-1, a high-density lipoprotein-associated enzyme, is proposed to have an antiatherogenic effect by protecting low-density lipoproteins against oxidation. METHODS We studied PON1 activity a...

Association between 45T/G Polymorphism of Adiponectin Gene and Coronary Artery Disease in an Iranian Population

A single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in the adiponectin gene, 45T/G, has been reported in relation to a number of metabolic disorders, including obesity, insulin resistance, and diabetes. However, previous studies on the association between this SNP and the presence of coronary artery disease (CAD) have been few, with no report from Iranian subjects. The present study set out to investigate t...

A preliminary study of the association between the ABCA1 gene promoter DNA methylation and coronary artery disease risk

Coronary artery disease (CAD) is a common health problem in Iranian population. ATP binding cassette transporter A1 (ABCA1) plays central role in the efflux of the cholesterol from peripheral tissues back to liver. Inactivation of ABCA1 by epigenetic change such as DNA methylation may contribute to the development of CAD. The present study investigated the association between promoter DNA methy...
